It’s been a while since I posted. Life’s been hectic, between my husband losing his job due to layoffs, and my entire family getting the flu, which ended with me getting a sinus infection. It’s been a while since I really felt up to working, never mind working out, but I’m getting there now.

I’ll tell you now, though, if you ever get any sort of sinus troubles, even just a cold from what I understand, a Neti pot really can help. I didn’t have to go to the doctor for help with my sinus troubles, which I’m about 99% sure was either a sinus infection or mere steps away from one. Nasal irrigation is taking care of the problem for me. My first time using it, and I’m greatly impressed.

I’ll be the first to admit that skin care is not high on my list of personal care activities. I get around to it every here and there, mostly after looking too closely in the mirror and seeing where the faint, faint lines are developing. Most of you probably know that moment well.

Good thing they’re mostly smile lines. If one must have lines, lines from smiles are much better.

But they do get me thinking about anti-aging products. Not too seriously yet, but there’s an awareness that the time will come.

I like the idea of natural skin care products, such as the Dead Sea cosmetics from Shira USA. Even though I’m 35, I could still sometimes use one of their products that takes acne prone skin into account.

The site does recommend consulting a spa to determine which products would really be best. That makes a lot of sense to me, since I can never make up my mind on what I really need to use.

Acne is one of those frustrating things that can follow some people for a lifetime. It runs stronger in some families than others. In fact, my grandmother likes to tell about how my grandfather didn’t want kids at first because acne had made him so miserable as a teen that he didn’t want to subject his children to that.

Obviously he changed his mind.

Acne does still run in my family, and continues to be a problem even into adulthood. Thank goodness it gets milder than in my teenage years.

Acne has only a little to do with fitness and exercise, but a lot to do with how you look. You just don’t feel as attractive when you’re dealing with a breakout.

My mother found out about Proactiv from my sister, and they both say it’s a really great product. I haven’t tried it personally, but I like to think I can take their recommendations on it. The Proactiv solution has a bonus right now when you purchase, worth about $20.

I always get frustrated with acne breakouts. When you’re trying to get fit and look your best, little things like that get really frustrating. But I do love how much the treatments have improved through the years so that acne is easier to control.

I’ll admit it. I’m terrible about skin care. Most women I know use lotion daily, and I only do so rarely. The only exception is when I take a good look and realize how DRY my skin has been getting.

Been going through one of those phases lately, in fact.

That makes it kind of interesting to look at sites such as this one that offer products such as Kinerase Skin Care Products. They offer a lot more, of course. Lots of high-end skin care products.

The site is actually pretty nice. A fair range of colors, but all in the same color range, so they go together nicely. And despite the number of products I can find things pretty easily so far as I can tell.

The pricing I gather is pretty typical, although it always amazes me what people can spend on skin care. As I said, I don’t use most of these things very often. I even tend to go without makeup, if you can picture that. Don’t worry, I was like that when I met my husband, so he’s quite used to it.

What I did like was the skin care resources. For someone like me, that was interesting reading. Good to see what exactly is expected of the various products.

I’m something of a ghost in appearance – in other words, very pale. That’s because I don’t tan; I burn, and so going out into the sun without sunscreen just doesn’t appeal.

Of course, limiting sun exposure is only one aspect of skin care. Especially when the air is dry you need to keep it moisturized for it to look and feel it’s best. The challenge is picking the right products. There’s just so much hype in the skin care industry.

Even a basic moisturizer can do quite a bit for you, although many people swear by more expensive formulations. It’s all up to what you find works in your particular case. And, of course, for women using makeup that is kind to the skin helps as well. I’ve heard good things about mineral makeup, for example, although I’ve not tried it myself.

Healthy skin is just one part of keeping yourself healthy. It doesn’t take much special effort, just a little something added into your morning or bedtime routine. But it can really make you feel better about how you look.

This is something I really need to get around to, so I went ahead and took a look for dentists in my area. I picked a 5 mile radius because I don’t want to have to drive all that far.

The site found 22 results within that area, which I figure is probably pretty good. One is about a mile and a half away, which seems to skip an office I know about perhaps a block or two closer if I’m understanding the map correctly. They only give dentist names rather than the practice name for most dentists which can make familiar practicies a little hard to identify.

Of course, that may be the fault of the dentists, I don’t know. This site does not limit its listings to dentist who pay them, so some dentists have more complete information, depending on what is submitted as I understand it.

But at other times of the year it really pays to be prepared. And that’s why I’m checking out SnapTint’s website today.

I always call my skin tone “ghost”. Maybe I’m not that pale but it’s pretty close. Protection from the sun is important to me.

I also live in a very warm climate. During the summer my car and my home get very warm.

Window tinting can help with all of that. I like the idea of less UV exposure when I’m out and about as well as needing to use the air conditioner less at home.

You always see this supplement or that getting rave reviews. Not only on the commercials but from people you may know. But is it the right one for you?

Not necessarily. It depends on your own needs.

Taking supplements incorrectly can actually be a step backwards for your health. If you get too much of a particular vitamin or mineral it can keep you from properly absorbing other vitamins or minerals. By the same token, too much of a particular mineral is just plain unhealthy.

Think about your metabolism. Do you think it’s fast? No need to speed it up further then. And if it’s slow don’t slow it down further.

Take the time to learn about the supplements you’d like to take. And don’t forget to ask your doctor for advice on what your body needs. It’s much safer than guesswork.

No, I have not tried it myself but I would be interested in hearing from any readers who may have tried it. They recommend using their product once a season, and have an auto-ship option so that if you want to do that it will be easy.

One thing I do like is that there is a link on the site to check out the ingredient list. For those of you who really know what ingredients you find work best, this is great information. It’s also nice for those who really want to see those natural ingredients.

I just learned about a site on fitness and exercise that is written by a personal trainer and thought I’d share it. It’s always good to get advice from the best sources you can!

Reading through I’m seeing some great articles with solid references. If you work out at the gym you’ll especially want to read the one on having a germ-free gym workout. There are plenty of really nasty bugs you can catch at the gym if you aren’t careful, such as antibiotic-resistant staphylococcus aureus. And yet avoiding such bugs is a relatively simple matter of being careful.

If you enjoyed my previous article on keeping fit during the holidays, you’ll probably also enjoy her tips on cutting holiday calories. This time of year is just such a challenge for so many people trying to keep fit with all the temptations and running about trying to get everything done!

One thing I could have wished for is the recipe for the whole wheat bread she posted about. There’s a lovely picture but no recipe. I have a breadmaker and we’re very interested in trying out different recipes. Homemade bread is just so superior in every way to store bought it’s not even funny. But all in all it’s a pretty good site.
