How Important is Exercise for Children?
You’ve probably heard about the problems obese children have, and how childhood obesity on the rise. That alone should give you an idea as to how important it is to encourage your kids to exercise.
Fortunately, children don’t necessarily need formal exercise. Just getting them out and playing is pretty good exercise. Just think about your own childhood. Maybe you were in some classes, maybe not, but how much time was spent just playing outside.
I think a lot of the problem today has to do with overprotective parents. I remember playing out in the front yard and even up and down the street at a pretty young age. Most parents wouldn’t dream of that these days.
Don’t forget the eating part of the equation. If you’re feeding your kids lots of fast food or other high fat foods they’re going to have more weight problems than those who regularly get healthier foods, especially fruits and vegetables.
Getting kids to exercise isn’t that tough. Just get them in the habit of playing outside. Soon enough they’ll be just fine and enjoy themselves. If their siblings and/or friends want to come and play, so much the better.
