Do You REALLY Want to Get Fit?

Many people say they want to get fit. Not everyone really means it, though. It’s popular to talk about wanting to get fit, however, and so people talk about it, play at getting a bit of exercise or eating just a little bit better. But they may not mean it.

If you really, REALLY want to get fit, you work harder at it. You make time for fitness. You know why you want to exercise and really believe you will achieve your goals. You may get frustrated sometimes, but you keep at it.

If you want to get fit but haven’t really had the drive to fully commit to it, why not start now? Just start looking at what you need to do.

Start by setting a reasonable goal. Maybe you want to reach a particular weight within a certain time frame. Maybe you want to be able to exercise for a certain length of time each time you go to exercise. Maybe you want to exercise a certain number of days each week.

Write that goal down and the steps you will take to achieve it. If it helps you, post that goal somewhere… the refrigerator, the television, the bathroom mirror. Where doesn’t matter. All that matters is that it is a place that you will notice it regularly and be motivated by it.

The steps to the goal are as important as the goal itself. If you set a goal of losing 10 pounds but don’t know how you’re going to do so, you are very likely to fail. Decide that you will give up an hour of sitting on the couch and use that time for exercise, and you are more likely to lose that weight.

Most goals will have several steps you will need to follow to achieve them. Exercising rather than sitting in front of the television is likely to help you lose weight, but a healthier diet will make you more likely to reach that goal.

You don’t need special help to set a goal. You know where you would like to be. You probably even have a general notion of how to get there. You can use a professional to advise you on particular techniques, but you don’t generally need one hovering over you every step of the way. Start with your doctor, and other professionals as you feel the need. But in the final analysis, it is up to you and your willpower.
