Parents Are Less Active?
That’s the surprising or not surprising report from WebMD.
This can be a surprise to new parents. I know from experience that you don’t feel like you get to sit down and relax. The closest it seemed to me was when I was feeding the baby. Of course now that my kids are 5 and 2, it seems like I rarely get to sit because they always need something. I don’t get much formal exercise, but they do keep me moving other ways.
Figuring out how to get around this can depend on if you are working outside the home or if you’re a stay at home parent. If you still work outside the home, it’s not too hard in many cases to add a nice walk to your lunch break, especially if you have an entire hour.
It can be much harder if you are at home. Baby’s naptime is one opportunity that can work well. It may be a prime time for you to rest, but take some of that to exercise in the home. You can have some inexpensive home gym equipment, such as an exercise ball, that are fairly safe even if baby should find them, that will help you to work out.

Sometimes I wonder if parents aren’t less active due to all the time we now spend driving our kids to school, to practice, to sports events, etc.
Of course, I homeschool, so I don’t have that excuse. I just don’t step away from the computer nearly enough.
