Too Busy to Exercise?

One of the reasons people come up with to not exercise is sheer lack of time. We lead busy lives these days. Many people work more than 8 hours a day and may even hold down two jobs. Parents need to spend time with their children. We all need a bit of downtime.

A lack of time to exercise is often more a problem of time management than a lack of time. However, you can combine obligations with exercise in some cases, while in others you have to figure out what kind of a priority exercise is.

For example, parents can find more time to exercise simply by combining their exercise time with time spent with the kids. Have a family ball game, whether you like baseball, soccer, football, basketball or any other sport. You will get the physical activity you need while having fun and maybe even talking to your kids.

If you’re working so many hours that you can’t figure out how to get out to exercise, take a look at your daily schedule. There are a few ways you can fit in some exercise.

Perhaps the simplest is to do some walking on breaks. Take a 15 minute break from your job and walk around. You may have to stay inside the building, but walking is great exercise. You might even have stairs to climb.

Then, on your lunch break, you can take a longer walk. You don’t want to get so sweaty that you scare off your coworkers, so take things pretty easy, but even normal walking is pretty good exercise.

You can also look into some basic home gym equipment. You don’t have to get too fancy, especially if you have very little room in your home. However, home gym equipment allows you to exercise at any time, day or night. You can even set it up in front of the television so you can watch your favorite shows without being a couch potato.

If you prefer, you can look into a gym membership at a place with late or very early hours. Is it worth it to you to lose an hour or so of sleep to get more fit?

This can also be a good time to just take a look at your current lifestyle. Maybe you’re trying to do too much. Maybe it’s time to say no to favors once in a while. Or maybe you truly can’t make any changes in your professional schedule.

Very few people are truly too busy to exercise. If you take a good look at your routine you should be able to find a way to exercise. Every little bit helps!
