Why Walk?
I’ve recommended walking many times here already as exercise. You may be wondering why I think so highly of it.
My reasons are pretty simple.
First of all, walking is easy to do. Anyone who can walk can do it. You don’t need special equipment and you don’t have to go anyplace special… although you can!
You can also easily walk with other people. It’s a perfect exercise to do as a family. As a mother of two, I really appreciate that. If the children are too young to walk as far as you’d like, you simply bring along a stroller and make the walk a little more physically challenging for yourself.
You can decide how challenging to make your walk. Some days you may just want to walk around a couple blocks in your neighborhood or walk around the part. Other days you may want to walk faster or take a more challenging hike someplace with hills or more challenging terrain.
Walking is perhaps the simplest of exercises to do, yet it involves your entire body. It involves almost every muscle in your body. It speeds up your heart rate, especially if you walk faster. It helps your circulation.
Walking is by no means the perfect exercise. It will help you to keep fit, true, but I strongly recommend adding a variety of other exercises to your routine if you want to really get fit. Swinging your arms a little more than usual can help, as can other motions you add to your walk.
As a busy mother, the fact that I can walk anytime is the best reason to choose walking as my primary exercise (aside from chasing the kids!). Finding time to do other exercise can be challenging, although not impossible. If you’re always finding excuses why you are too busy to exercise, try just walking. It’s probably the easiest exercise to add to your daily routine.
