Why Not Meditate?
Life is hectic these days. Just about everyone says so. Work, family, friends… did I mention work? They all just seem to pile up and there’s no time to relax.
No doubt this is one of the major reasons people have so many health problems these days. It’s so easy to get stressed out, eat poorly and forget exercising. Who has the time for all that?
Whether or not you exercise, meditation is a good idea. You don’t need anything special, aside from a quiet, comfortable place and a bit of time.
Mediation is a chance to leave all your stress behind, if only for a little while. No funny chants or guru needed… unless that’s your preference of course.
Sit comfortably in a quiet place, with peaceful music if you like. Clear your mind and breathe slowly and deeply. Just relax. Think calmly about whatever comes natural, reflecting on it but not becoming disturbed. This can be a spiritual or religious meditation if you like, or just meditate on the more pleasant things in life.
You can also experiment with various candle or incense scents to see what helps you to relax. The dancing flame of a candle in a darkened or dimly lit room is very peaceful to most people and quite effective for meditation.
Meditation doesn’t have to take time out of your busy day. I’ve done meditation as a part of how I get ready to fall asleep, just meditating while lying in bed.
Meditation is a great way to lower your overall stress levels. All the little things stress do to your body can make it easier to get sick or develop more serious problems such as heart disease. Meditation gives your body just a little break from those problems.
